Why Do Some People Still Blame Our Measles Outbreaks on Immigrants?
Of course, this argument makes as much sense as most of the other things they say.
Why?

Mostly it is because we actually know the wild-type genotype of most of the cases in our outbreaks, something Nurse Michele points out, but clearly doesn’t understand.
You see, all the cases are of genotype D8-9171, a strain that was first found in a large outbreak in New Brunswick, Ontario, Canada in 2024.
An outbreak that was triggered by an unvaccinated traveler going to a Mennonite wedding.
An unvaccinated traveler who started an outbreak that spread across Canada and where cases eventually made their way into the United States (January 2025) and then to Mexico (March 2025) via West Texas.
The strain has even been found in South America, specifically Argentina (April 2025), Brazil (July 2025), and Peru (2026).
Interestingly though, the cases in South America were found after the first cases in the United States, which goes against immigrants bringing measles into the country. Instead, it strongly suggests that we are likely exporting measles to these countries that had previously had measles under good control!
What else?
If immigrants were bringing measles into the United States, or Canada for that matter, we should be seeing more measles cases and outbreaks among immigrants, right?
But we are not.
Instead, we are seeing measles outbreaks in large communities of intentionally unvaccinated children and adults who are residents of the United States.
So, it is not because of a ‘mass invasion of illegals.’
It is simply because herd immunity levels of immunity are disappearing, as not enough people are getting vaccinated and protected.
It is because too many people are getting scared by the misinformation and propaganda put out by these kinds of anti-vaccine influencers.
And maybe one immigrant…

Because it’s always easy to blame the “other.” Throughout history the immigrants have always been “dirty”. Dirty Mexicans, dirty Italians, dirty Irish, and the list continues backwards. Every immigrant group comes in poor, bringing very little, and not living up to prissy standards.
