Did you know that there are Mennonite mothers who don’t believe that vaccines are associated with autism?
Wait, did you know that there are Mennonite children and adults who are autistic?
Mennonite Mothers Who Don’t Believe That Vaccines Are Associated With Autism
I’m guessing the answer is no to both of those questions, so you should get a lot out of this post, because there are Mennonite mothers with autistic children, and they don’t think that vaccines are associated with autism!
Mennonite mothers like Kalyn Falk, the author of Mother of the Year - and Other Elusive Awards - Misadventures in Autism.
Her son was diagnosed with autism before he was two years old.
She’s not the only one either.
There is also Angela Loeppky, author of Living with Rain Girl: And Other Under the Weather Conditions.
Her daughter was diagnosed with autism at age six.
Lastly, we have Angeline Schellenberg, author of Tell Them It Was Mozart.
She has two autistic children.
“News stories about autism often use words like tragedy, epidemic, crisis,” she says. “Parenting books hold out one more exhausting therapy that could make all the difference (but probably won’t). I wanted to say, ‘Enough! They are who they are. Let’s just enjoy each other.’
Angeline Schellenberg
And she also does not discuss vaccines being associated with autism.
So, that’s three Mennonite mothers, Angeline Schellenberg, Angela Loeppky, and Kalyn Falk, who have all written about raising autistic children.
And notably, none attributes their children's autism to vaccination, with Falk explicitly pushing back against casually blaming autism on vaccines.
What else?
They aren’t the only ones!
“EMILY STEVENS ‘17 teaches kindergarten through 2nd grade autistic support. Her students are significantly impacted by their autism, so her primary focus is working with them on communication and verbal behavior skills.”

Which goes against the whole anti-vaccine narrative that Amish and Mennonite communities don’t have autism!
Everyone can have autism, no matter what religion they have.
