Will We Soon See an HPV Vaccine for Infants and Toddlers?
Why do some people think that we will soon see an HPV vaccine for infants and toddlers?

The usual suspects…
Will We Soon See an HPV Vaccine for Infants and Toddlers?
Anti-vaccine influencers are pushing the idea that Merck and the Gates Foundation wants to give HPV vaccines to infants and toddlers.
“Consultants paid by Merck and the Gates Foundation are publicly advocating to administer HPV vaccines to children as young as 12-24 months — an age group in which the vaccine has never been tested and for which no safety data exist.”

So what’s the real story?
“The goal of this study is to explore whether a 2-dose 9vHPV vaccine regimen with dosage separated by 12 months is immunogenic among children aged 4-8 years.”

A small, early phase I study on older preschool and younger school aged children to confirm that Gardasil induces high-level protective antibody titers.
But why would we want to give these younger children HPV vaccines, a vaccine that prevents cervical cancer and genital warts, etc.?
Well, believe it or not, there is a very good reason to give HPV vaccines to younger children, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers!

Gardasil has been used in toddlers, preschoolers, and older children with relapses of respiratory papillomatosis caused by HPV 6 or 11!
“There have been several case reports showing longer surgery intervals for RRP patients after they are vaccinated with the HPV vaccine. These vaccinations of RRP patients have occurred in very young children after diagnosis, as well as other ages outside of the current CDC 9-45 age range. Vaccination with the HPV vaccine after diagnosis, if not yet already vaccinated, is considered to be a piece of modern RRP care.”
What types of Adjunct therapy are used?
Gardasil has helped toddlers, preschoolers, and older children with relapses of respiratory papillomatosis caused by HPV 6 or 11!
“This is a case of a 4 year old female with recalcitrant recurrent respiratory papillomatosis with decreasing intersurgical interval that had improvement in clinical course after administration of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine.”
Intersurgical interval increased with use of quadrivalent human papillomavirus vaccine (Gardasil) in a pediatric patient with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis: A case report
Also, widespread use of HPV vaccines, in addition to decreasing rates of cervical cancer and genital warts, will also decrease a baby’s risk of developing respiratory papillomatosis in the first place!
At least they will if anti-vaccine influencers don’t scare people away from getting vaccinated and protected…
