Why Is California Leading the Nation in Autism Rates?
And why does Texas have the lowest rates? The answer may surprise you!
Can you guess why California is leading the nation in autism rates?

I’ll give you a hint…
It has nothing to do with vaccines!
Why Is California Leading the Nation in Autism Rates?
It is easy to see how anti-vaccine influencers would jump to the conclusion that vaccines are associated with the high rates of autism in California though.
After all, California did recently pass laws that all children must be vaccinated to attend school, eliminating non-medical exemptions after the 2014 Disneyland measles outbreak. And then again in 2019, as the number of fake medical exemptions had skyrocketed…
So, did this change lead to more kids developing autism?
Of course not!
For one thing, the latest autism statistics are about kids who were aged 8 in 2022.
Do you see the problem with their reasoning yet?
That means that they were born in 2014…
So you wouldn’t really expect to see anything from changes made in 2019 yet.
And for another thing, there are still plenty of unvacinated kids in California schools, as parents have found ways to get around the new laws, which is why we are also seeing some measles in unvaccinated kids there.

But to really see that autism rates are not associated with vaccines, let’s take a look at an area with the lowest rates of autism - Laredo, Texas.

Unlike the San Diego, California area, around Laredo, Texas, rates of autism are only about 1 in 103 children!
And their vaccination rates?
They are high.

Very high actually.
The public and private schools in Webb County, Texas have immunization rates for children attending kindergarten as high as 95 to 100% for all vaccines.
They are even higher than the immunization rates in San Diego schools!
So much for the idea that vaccines are associated with autism, right?
And that leads us to the real reason for the differences in autism rates in these two areas, which is of course, that one likely does a much better job of screening, finding, and diagnosing their autistic kids.
“The true rate may not be substantially different between California and other ADDM states, including New Jersey,” Zahorodny said. “What’s different is that California implemented some wide-ranging screening and intervention programs, which may have resulted in a higher estimated prevalence than elsewhere in the network.”

That’s all it is.
After all, if you live in a city, state, or country with low autism rates, all that means is that they may be missing a lot of autistic children and adults that live there.
It’s still not about vaccines…
