Update on the Measles Deaths in Mexico
After decades with few cases in the country, seven children have now died with measles in Mexico.
Measles continues to spread in Mexico.
“The Associated Press reported health officials traced the Mexico outbreak to an 8-year-old unvaccinated Mennonite boy who visited relatives in Seminole, Texas, and then returned to Mexico in March.”

Update on the Measles Deaths in Mexico
And inevitably, as measles cases are surging, we are also seeing more measles deaths.
Tragically, another child has recently died due to complications of measles.
“Another death from measles was confirmed this Monday in the state of Chihuahua.
The Chihuahua Health Department reported that the girl is 2 years and 11 months old, due to complications from measles.”
Measles deaths in Chihuahua rise to 9
Altogether, that means that there have now been ten measles deaths in Mexico, including nine in Chihuahua and one in Sonora, a one-year-old girl.
That’s seven unvaccinated children in Mexico that have died in the last few months.

an 11-month-old from Ojinaga
a 2-year-old from Ojinaga
a 4-year-old from Guachochi
a 5-year-old from Sinaloa
a 2-year-old from Balleza
a 1-year-old from Sonora
Seven children have died of a vaccine preventable disease.
Update on the Global Measles Deaths
Tragically, deaths in many other countries are even greater than the measles deaths we have seen in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
Even as the Trump administration and RFK Jr has stopped funding global vaccination organizations, outbreaks and epidemics of measles and other vaccine preventable diseases are on the rise all over the world.

And so are deaths.
“By Gavi’s own estimate, the loss of U.S. support may mean 75 million children do not receive routine vaccinations in the next five years, with more than 1.2 million children dying as a result.”
U.S. to End Vaccine Funds for Poor Countries
In addition to measles, there has also been a global resurgence of diphtheria, pertussis, yellow fever, and meningitis.
Diseases and deaths that will certainly be getting worse in the next few years, thanks to both an increase in vaccine hesitancy and a drop in funding for vaccines.
