I think the rate of SSPE deaths has been sat at around an average of 2 per year between 2000 and 2017. It would have been trending down to zero, but with the increase in measles cases over the last couple of years and with more to come, I suspect it will increase somewhat downstream.
There have been what... 5-6,000 cases over the last couple of years? That means that a couple of families who currently are blissfully unaware that their cute unvaxed toddler or child (who came through the measles unscathed) will be hit is another year or two by seeing their child waste away into a vegetative, unresponsive shell, taking years to die an awful, lingering death.

Eight acute measles deaths. We must not forget that people are still dying from SSPE, which is a form of chronic measles encephalitis.
