Rand Paul Doesn’t Understand How Immunity Works
Why You Shouldn’t Listen to Rand Paul
Rand Paul thinks he understands how immunity works…
That’s not surprising, after all, he is a medical doctor.
Rand Paul Doesn’t Understand How Immunity Works
Still, a lot of people won’t be surprised to learn that he really doesn’t know what he is talking about when he talks about immunity.
After all, this is a ‘doctor’ who is excited about someone who still has antibodies to The Spanish Flu after 100 years.
Why isn’t that as exciting as it sounds?
Well, those antibodies are only going to protect the person if that same strain of Spanish Flu comes around again!
Unfortunately, that’s not what happens with many of these types of viruses, especially cold, flu, and COVID viruses.
Instead, we typically get a new strain each and every year.
So while we may have long term immunity after a viral infection, that immunity won’t mean too much if the virus changes.
Changes that make you susceptible to getting an infection every season that the virus comes around.
Changes that nearly always happen.
That’s why you can get a cold or the flu or COVID over and over again.
And that’s why most of us get a flu vaccine each season and why many of us have gotten updated COVID vaccines, even after a natural infection.
Why You Shouldn’t Listen to Rand Paul
What else has Rand Paul been wrong about?
Consider what he has said about kids with COVID!
“One intriguing hypothesis that might explain why children recover so easily from COVID is that previous infection with common cold coronaviruses may provide the protection that allows many patients to have few or no symptoms when infected with COVID-19.”
Excerpt From Deception Rand Paul
Of course, there is no cross protection between common cold coronaviruses and COVID-19.
And not all kids recovered from COVID that easily.
In fact, over 2,300 kids died during the COVID pandemic in the United States!
Natural Immunity vs Getting a Vaccine
Rand Paul is also wrong about natural immunity being better than vaccine induced immunity.
“So, the next time someone talks about “natural immunity,” ask them: Would you rather train your immune system with practice from a vaccine—or throw it into a real fight and hope for the best?”
Vaccine Immunity vs. Infection Out in the Wild: What’s the Difference and Why It Matters
For one thing, you had to survive having COVID to get that natural immunity and we know that many people didn’t!
“We showed the vaccination provides all the benefit of antiviral immunity without autoantibody development. So the cost you pay in terms of risk is substantially lower for getting vaccinated than becoming infected.”
Vaccination Has a Lower Risk of Autoantibody Development Than COVID Natural Immunity
And again, natural immunity is only going to last as long as it takes for another COVID variant to come along.
“The level of misinformation assailing the American people in 2020 was staggering. For months, I fought these flat-earthers and their relentless attacks.”
Excerpt From Deception Rand Paul
Unfortunately, Rand Paul isn’t done yet assailing us with misinformation.
Pandemic Revisionism
Like many other anti-vaccine influencers who were active during the COVID pandemic, he has moved from only attacking COVID vaccines to a more broad attack on vaccines.
And like other anti-vaccine influencers, he is working hard to try and rewrite just how the COVID pandemic went down, trying to paint Dr. Fauci and other experts as the villains, minimizing COVID hospitalizations and deaths, and overstating COVID vaccine side effects, especially myocarditis.
“At the population level, COVID-19 vaccination greatly reduced the risk of COVID-19 mortality and no increased risk of death from other causes was observed.”
Effect of COVID-19 vaccination on mortality by COVID-19 and on mortality by other causes, the Netherlands, January 2021–January 2022
Through their pandemic revisionism, people like Rand Paul want you to think that COVID vaccines and treatments weren’t necessary or that they made things worse.
They want you to think that the COVID pandemic wasn’t that bad or at least, it wouldn’t have been that bad if public health experts had just gotten out of the way and let everyone get sick. In their view, the problem wasn’t COVID, instead, it was the COVID vaccines, COVID medicines, lockdowns, and having to wear a mask, etc.

They didn’t.
COVID vaccines saved lives.
And not surprisingly, there is plenty of evidence that wearing masks and social distancing saved lives during the COVID pandemic.
Just as there is evidence that it is very risky to listen to these kind of folks pushing misinformation and propaganda about vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases…
