Moving the Goalposts When Talking About Measles Cases and Deaths

Have you noticed how anti-vaccine influencers have changed the way they talk about measles cases and deaths these days? That’s right, they have moved the goalposts!

But did anyone die? Tragically, yes, kids have been dying from vaccine preventable diseases thanks to the rise in vaccine hesitancy fueled by anti-vaccine influencers.

Remember when they used to say all of the measles cases weren’t a big deal because there weren’t any deaths?

Bob Sears is wrong. Measles is certainly deadly in the United States, just like it is everywhere else, and as there are more and more cases, there will be more and more deaths. The risk will only be close zero when measles is finally eradicated.

This is one of the dumbest and more dangerous things that RFK Jr has said… It is not very, very hard to kill a healthy child with any infectious disease. Just look at all of the deaths the last few years from flu and COVID.

And what are they saying now that children have died when they got sick with measles and have had serious complications, like measles encephalitis?

They are saying that even though unvaccinated children are supposed to be so healthy that they never get sick, and even though measles is supposed to be mild, these kids got sick enough that a ‘medical error’ killed them - not measles.

Even with the best medical care, children and adults can still die when they get measles. But again, if measles is so mild, can someone ask Polly Tommey why did any of these kids get so sick in the first place?

They have moved the goalposts.

They have moved the goalposts from measles is mild and there are no deaths to the measles deaths are not from measles.

Of course, those deaths were from measles.

Don’t believe them.
